About the Alzheimer’s Association

Growing Need: In March 2007, the national Alzheimer’s Association released a comprehensive report with the latest data on Alzheimer’s disease. The report served as a wake-up call to the country about the growing incidence, cost, and burden of the disease, and it confirmed the need for expanded support for family and professional caregivers. At the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter, the report affirmed that we were on the right track in our efforts to expand services, increase financial resources, and create broader awareness.

  • 5 million Number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease in the U.S. in 2007
  • 7.7 million Projected number of people with Alzheimer’s in 2030
  • 70% Percentage of people with Alzheimer’s who are cared for at home
  • 8.5 billion Hours of care provided by unpaid caregivers in 2005
  • $148 billion Annual direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s and other dementias

“Funds provided by Tomorrow’s Hope help us achieve our mission, which is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to enhance care and support for Alzheimer’s patients, their families, and caregivers; and to promote brain health. With your dollars, we provide one-on-one Care Consultations with a skilled counselor, organize support groups for caregivers, and offer a wide variety of community presentations for caregivers and for those who want to maintain a healthy brain. We are very dependent on support from local communities in order to bring our programs to the people who live there.”
